Maruti’s first Indian-manufactured EV: Set to make its debut in 2025

Maruti Suzuki finally entered the electric vehicle market with the launch of the Suzuki eVitara. eVitara is Maruti’s commitment to the green mobility revolution and sustainability.

The car is going to make its Asian debut at the 2025 Auto Expo in January, and then it will finally launch in India in mid-2025. It will hit the markets of Europe and Japan first and then India.

Bold Move for E-Mobility

Underpinning Suzuki’s eVitara is its brand-new HEARTECT-e platform, specifically designed for electric vehicles. The lightweight, strong body increases the battery capacity plus provides a spacious cabin for five passengers. E-Vitara will also stand in line with many other direct competitors with a length measuring 4.23 meters, featuring an impressive 2.7-meter wheelbase.

It will come with two battery packs, 49 kWh and 61 kWh. The 49kWh pack will provide a power output of 142bhp, whereas the larger 61 kWh variant will make 171bhp in two-wheel drive (2WD) form.

The two battery packs will provide a cracking 181bhp combined output when deployed with an electric motor at both front and rear for 4WD (four-wheel drive). Thus, making eVitara the most powerful Suzuki model to date in the last 20 years. The 4WD, ALLGRIP-e equipped system, is supposed to be better off-road with a Trail Mode, which adjusts torque to maximize traction on rough terrains.

High-Tech Features and Interior Design

eVitara will come with ultra-minimalistic yet super-functional interiors with a one-piece display on the interior. It will also feature a futuristic newly designed center console. Vertical air vents and an updated flat-bottom steering wheel adorn the cabin. This points towards the changing Maruti outlook from traditional ICE-based vehicles to electric vehicles.

Suzuki eVitara features will include Level 2 ADAS (Driving Assistant Systems), a 360-degree camera, and connected car technology. Other features include V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) and V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) charging. This is one more example of how this car would fit well with modern urban and adventure-driven lifestyles. The car will also come with a full LED light package for a sophisticated touch.

Performance and Range

Suzuki is also improving energy efficiency in the eVitara by redesigning the underfloor to make more space for the battery. The company aims to get as much range out of the vehicle as possible. Its single charge range is estimated to be about 400 km depending on the model.

Made in India for the World eVitara will be manufactured in the Suzuki Motor Gujarat assembly plant. This furthers India’s position as a global manufacturing hub for electric vehicles. Maruti Suzuki’s EV launch would raise competition, with the likes of Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Hyundai Creta EV, etc already operating in the EV sector.

Conclusion

eVitara is the first move by Maruti Suzuki to start carving out a market share of the electric vehicles sector in India’s automobile landscape. The new ALLGRIP-e 4WD system, multiple battery options, and other features provided in the eVitara will give consumers something reliable, powerful, and eco-friendly for the future. As Maruti continues to scale up its electric vehicle offerings, the eVitara sets a good foundation for the brand’s future in the EV space.
