Adani Group Expands Aviation and Defense Capabilities Through Air Works Acquisition
Adani Defence & Aerospace a division of the Adani Group revealed it acquired Air Works, a prominent aviation maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) company operating in 35 cities across India. The deal will help the Adani group expand its business in civil and defense aviation, which forms part of Adani’s plan to develop integrated aviation services.
Air Works employs over 1,300 professionals and offers aviation services such as line maintenance, heavy checks, avionics support, and aircraft painting. With this acquisition, the Adani Group will have the means to cater to India’s growing aviation sector; MRO development is central to the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Air Works is one of the largest aviation MRO companies, offering its services not only domestically but also to other countries. It has major facilities in Hosur, Mumbai, and Kochi, where it conducts base maintenance for narrowbody, turboprop, and rotary aircraft.
The acquisition requires approval from more than twenty international aviation authorities, making Adani a key participant in the global MRO industry. Other services, such as interior refurbishment, redelivery check, and avionics, enhance Adani’s growing portfolio of aviation facilities.
This decision is made given the increasing dynamics in the Indian aviation industry, which plans to accommodate more than 1,500 aircraft in the coming years. This acquisition is consistent with Adani’s goals, as the company wants to establish a proper aviation service and infrastructure.
Air Works has developed a significant number of defense MRO capabilities, including support for the Indian Navy’s P-8I aircraft and the Indian Air Force’s 737 VVIP aircraft. This expertise aligns well with Adani Defence & Aerospace’s strategic intent to design and build advanced defense systems, making the group a significant stakeholder in India’s defense structure.
Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airports, stressed the significance of this acquisition as a decision-making endeavor to define India’s future in aviation. By integrating Air Works capabilities, Adani seeks to enhance domestic aviation service providers while achieving global competitiveness.
Ashish Rajvanshi, the CEO of Adani Defence & Aerospace, said this had been a way of expressing readiness to escalate indigenisation efforts. This perfectly fits the goals of countries to increase the level of indigenization in the defense industry and increase civil and military air traffic.
