The US surpasses China to reclaim the top spot in billionaire rankings with 870 billionaires, followed by India in third place
The United States has returned to its top position as the global leader of billionaires after surpassing China for the first time in two years. The latest Hurun Global Rich List shows that the United States has 870 billionaires, an increase from 800 in the last year. China is the second wealthiest nation in the world, with 823 billionaire members, but they have only grown by nine. A two-year downward trend for Chinese billionaires finally concluded during this shift.
America’s Entrepreneurial Growth Drives Wealth
Strong entrepreneurial growth produced 96 new billionaires, contributing to the increased number of US billionaires. The nation showed signs of growing wealth production because it lost only 17 billionaires from the millionaire list. New York again secured its position as the worldwide billionaire capital, with 129 billionaires in the city. The city remains dominant since Beijing managed to surpass it briefly in 2016. Forty-two percent of total wealth belongs to American billionaires, and 45 billionaires made it onto the Hurun Top 100 list.
American immigrants represent 236 of the 2006 billionaires on the global list. This growth finds its primary source of momentum in sectors such as Financial Services alongside Media and entertainment and Software and services. Regarding female billionaires, the country ranks second in the world by number, with 130 individuals.
China Falls to Second Spot Amid Wealth Loss
China became second in the billionaire rankings after dominating the category over the past ten years. The decline of 82 billionaires in China revealed positive growth indicators by adding 91 new billionaires. The total wealth on the list consists of Chinese billionaires, who represent only 16% of its value.
Chinese billionaires obtained their wealth independently, and most worked in the Industrial Products, Consumer Goods, and Healthcare sectors. China persists as an eminent center for wealth generation even though it has experienced setbacks. Its citizens maintain their position as investors, while the speed of billionaire population expansion trails behind that of the United States.
India Maintains Third Spot with Strong Growth
India is currently the third-largest country in terms of billionaire population, with 284 billionaires, an increase of 45 since last year. Mumbai has served as the national hub for billionaires since 90 such individuals have maintained their primary residence. The worldwide revenue of seven Indian billionaires amounts to 7%, while their collective number represents seven members of the Hurun Top 100.
